Pre-elementary school admission briefings for parents from abroad  – NPO Nishitokyo Multicultural and International Center

Pre-elementary school admission briefings for parents from abroad – Joint organizer –

What is this activity?

We introduce pre-entrance procedures and equipment used at school so that parents from foreign countries who are unfamiliar with Japanese elementary schools can prepare for school without anxiety.

Participants can ask questions in their native language or English.

We hold online briefings in September and January.

Past activities

We have been holding these briefings since 2021.

Eight people attended the briefing in September 2024. We explained what to prepare before entering elementary school, school life in the first grade, how to spend time after school, and after-school childcare for children. Explanations were given in easy Japanese, and questions were answered in Chinese and English.

In the January 2025 briefing, specific explanations were given on what children should be able to do on their own before entering school (changing clothes, being able to read their own name, going to school by themselves, etc.). Parents were also given detailed information on what children should take to school (school backpack, stationery, emergency hood, etc.), the entrance ceremony, Japanese language classes, and so on.
