Event Report: Experiencing a Traditional Japanese New Year

On Saturday, January 24th, we held a Japanese New Year experience event at the Tanashi Community Center.

The event was attended by 20 foreign residents and 15 staff members, including volunteers and a Chinese interpreter. Participants enjoyed traditional New Year dishes such as Zoni (soup with rice cakes) and grilled Mochi. After the meal, everyone had a great time playing traditional games including Bozu-mekuri, Fukuwarai, Sugoroku, and Kendama. Participants also tried Kakizome (the first calligraphy of the year).

In the post-event survey, some participants expressed interest in joining the Japanese Speech Contest or volunteering for NIMIC activities. It was a successful event that fostered meaningful community connections.
